Covid19: WHO warns against Omicron’s increasing threat
Covid-19: World Health Organization (WHO) warns that the Omicron strain’s threat is increasing at an unprecedented rate.
Cases of the virus have been reported in 77 countries. Addressing the press, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, WHO chief stated that it is quite possible that it is present in other countries which have not yet reported it.
WHO chief expressed his concern regarding the situation and said that not enough attention is being given to this issue as is required. He said that we are already aware of the danger that this virus poses, Even though Omicron does cause less severe disease, the large number of cases can still overwhelm the health system which is still unprepared to tackle the rising threat.
WHO’s recent data suggests that Omicron is better at combating the available vaccines and thus poses a greater risk of re-infection.
