Bilawal has strategically shifted the focus from PTI to the debate of Nawaz or no Nawaz in his recent campaign efforts in Punjab. Despite Gallup polls and Bloomberg showing support for Nawaz on the ground, the reality is quite different. PML-N’s popularity is currently at an all-time low, making a fourth stint as prime minister seem like a distant dream that may not materialize for Nawaz Sharif.

Jehangir Tareen and Asif Zardari are both adept at playing the numbers game. With a significant number of independents in the field, intense negotiations are underway. These independents are required by law to join a party within three days of the election results.

The most intense competition is expected in NA-127, where Zaheer Khokhar for PTI will give Bilawal Bhutto a tough challenge. Atta Tarrar of PML-N is in a weaker position. Khokhar, considered a dark horse, may clinch victory, as predicted by this writer two weeks ago on the Yasmeen Ki Baithak program on Baaghi TV.

Another interesting development may unfold. PTI might employ “proxies” to support independent candidates, possibly reaching out to Majlis-e-Wahdat-e-Muslameen and JUP-Sherani. If this materializes, it will be intriguing to observe the future of Imran Khan within the “new” PTI. Will he be compelled to step down in favor of new leadership?

That the government will take time in forming, a few weeks, extending into March sometime is likely. This prediction was also made on the Yasmeen Ki Baithak program aired on 3rd February.

Bushra Bibi’s confinement to “rigorous imprisonment” at home carries significant implications. While serving simple imprisonment in her home converting it into a sub-jail is plausible, serving of rigorous imprisonment is not. Favors in politics often come with a price tag; they are rarely free.

The current situation remains highly unpredictable. The outcome is anyone’s guess!
