Prince William’s Earthshot Prize winners are said to be unveiled on Sunday at a prestigious awards ceremony to be held at London’s Alexandra Palace. The event is expected to be “the most tenable event of its kind.”
The Earthshot Prize is an award that somewhat resembles the Noble Prize and is bestowed upon the eligible persons to incentivise change for the betterment of the environment. It was founded by the Duke of Cambridge and the popular British naturalist David Attenborough to invigorate innovative solutions to the most urgent environmental problems which the planet is currently facing.
“We live in the most subsequent era in human history — the decisions we make in the next decade will determine the fate of our planet for the next millennium,” says William.
“Ten years don’t seem so long, but humanity has a marvellous record of making the impossible possible.”
Furthermore, William stated “,most of the solutions to our problems are already out there… but we need people to work together and to raise their ambition and unite to undertake the task of repairing our planet.”
“We are to determine our destiny. And if we set our minds to it, we can achieve the unthinkable,” he added.
Crown Prince and lifelong environmentalist, Prince Charles said that he was “proud” of his son for his determination towards the protection of our environment.
“In the coming years, with later generations in mind, The Earthshot Prize, and its influential nominees, will lead us towards our goal.
Attenborough is due to express his views at the awards ceremony about the importance of the Earthshot Prize and his firm belief in humanity’s ability to counter the most troubling environmental problems of today.
Five will be named winners out of the 15 finalists for the first-ever Earthshot Prize, which will be disclosed by a team of presenters including the British actors Emma Thompson, Emma Watson and David Oyelowo, The Duchess of Cambridge and Mo Salah, the Liverpool soccer star.
