A woman went missing from the group of Sikh pilgrims that had travelled to Pakistan on 4 November to celebrate the Parkash Purab of Guru Nanak Dev Ji. The woman has been identified as Sarabjit Kaur, resident of village Amainipur, Post Office Tibba, District Kapurthala.
As per immigration records, the woman travelled to Pakistan on 4 November with a jatha (group) of 1,932 Sikh pilgrims via the Attari border. After spending ten days visiting various gurdwaras in Pakistan, the group returned to India today. Out of 1,932 only 1,922 had returned by late evening.
According to India-Pakistan immigration records, 1,923 pilgrims were supposed to return today. Out of them, 1,922 safely came back to India, but Sarabjit Kaur did not return as she had gone missing from the group. Her name was not found in the records of Pakistan’s immigration while exiting, nor in India’s immigration records for re-entry.
After her disappearance and absence in both countries’ immigration records, intelligence agencies of India and Pakistan are now trying to trace her previous links to determine how and through what means she went missing inside Pakistan.
It has also come to light that when the Indian woman entered Pakistan on 4 November with the group, she submitted an incomplete immigration form. She did not provide her nationality or passport number in the form she filled out at Pakistani immigration.
