A high-level delegation of the World Bank has reportedly praised the efforts of Pakistan International Airlines (PIA), amidst the withdrawal of the United States and other forces from Afghanistan.
According to reports, they thanked the efforts of PIA in evacuating World Bank members from Kabul. The delegation which was led by Director Strategy included heads of the World Bank chapters from Pakistan and Afghanistan.
On the occasion, the World Bank delegation presented shields to CEO Air Marshal (retd) Arshad Malik and the Afghanistan flight crew.
In response, CEO Arshad Malik thanks them for the honour stating that PIA took on the Afghan evacuation operation for ‘humanitarian reasons and not for commercial gains.
It was reiterated that traditionally, PIA is always at forefront of opportunities to offer assistance and humanitarian aid in national affairs.
In a letter addressed to CEO Arshad Malik, Hartwig Schafer Vice President South Asian Region, World Bank stated, “The temporary relocation of over 300 World Bank staff and their families from Kabul on August 20, 2021, was a humanitarian act of the highest cause.” He further stated, “We look forward to your support in evacuating our remaining staff and families”.
