June 21, 2021: The practice to celebrate this day began 29 years ago in 1981 in the French capital, Paris. In just a few years, this day has been celebrated all over the world, including in Asian countries.

World Music Day is a beautiful attempt to unite people around the world in a chain of peace, love and brotherhood through music. The discovery of musical instruments from thousands of years old archeology, mostly made of stone, proves that the history of music is as old as the human race.

The tradition of music in the subcontinent is very old. This art flourished long before the Mughal period. After Amir Khosrow, from Tan Sen and Beju Bawara, KL Sehgal and Mukhtar Begum to the recent past, hundreds of classical singers became the masters of this art. Apart from classical music, ghazal, song, folk and playback singing etc. are also very popular among the people here. – Music is also considered to be the food of the soul.
