Lahore, 9th August: Prime Minister Imran Khan inaugurated the world’s biggest Miyawaki urban forest in Lahore under the 10 Billion Tree Tsunami Project.

According to details, PM Khan inaugurated the Miyawaki urban forest initiated under the 10 Billion Tree Tsunami project, in Lahore on Monday, terming it as just the beginning of the steps taken towards implementing his vision of Green Pakistan.

As per Baaghi TV’s reports, according to the unique Miyawaki technique, the forest has been developed on over 100 kanals and will feature around 165,000 plants that will grow 10 times quicker than in a normal forest.

The method uses specialized land preparation as well as original varieties with different growth rates to produce fast-growing urban forests.

Prime Minsiter Imran Khan addressed the nation on the occasion and said that Pakistan had made a full contribution to lessen the effects of global warming in the region.

He said, “This Miyawaki forest will absorb carbon emissions at a faster pace which in turn will increasingly reduce the impact of emissions on the environment.”

The premier disclosed that only 640 million trees had been planted across the country since its independence till 2013. PM Khan added, “But, from 2013 to 2018 we planted one billion trees in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa alone and we aim to plant 10 billion trees now.”

PM Khan said in his speech, “What my government has done now is just the beginning. Miyawaki is the world’s biggest forest and we dedicate it to Miyawaki, the professor in Japan who died last month.”

The premier recalled that Lahore used to be one of the cleanest cities of Pakistan, but has now become the country’s most polluted city.

Pakistan set to complete one billion trees plantation by mid year

According to reports from Dawn News, Prime Minister also urged every citizen to plant a tree each. He reiterated, “We must ensure the upkeep of trees that we plant. All citizens especially students should strive for the future of Pakistan in this regard.”

It is to be noted that around 53 Miyawaki forests are being developed in different parts of Lahore to create sinks for carbon as well as for better pollution reduction in the city.
