Director General (DG) World Health Organization (WHO), Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, has warned that the coronavirus pandemic will last a long time.

About six months ago, a mysterious pneumonia-like disease first appeared in the Chinese city of Wuhan. It was said at the time that we were facing a pandemic like SARS which killed 774 people in 2002 and 2004.

But now, with more than 500,000 deaths and more than 10 million confirmed victims, Dr. Ghebreyesus says this is a moment of reflection for all of us. However, he warned that “the worst is yet to come.”

He added that despite progress in some countries, the pandemic  is spreading rapidly and the world needs more flexibility, patience and generosity in the coming months.

“Six months ago, none of us had any idea how this new virus would shake our world and our lives,” Tedros said at a WHO press conference.
