Wuhan holds massive Graduation Ceremony without face masks, social distancing

Lahore, 17th June: Around 11,000 college graduates received their diplomas over the weekend at a Graduation ceremony held in Wuhan, China, where the coronavirus pandemic is believed to have originated.

While much of the world is still struggling with outbreaks, tens of thousands of students and their families gathered into a large stadium with no social distancing and just a few masks in sight.

11,000 graduates from the Central China Normal University took home their diplomas on Sunday.

The crowd included about 2,000 alumni who were not able to attend their graduation ceremony last year due to coronavirus restrictions.

It may be remembered that 11 million residents in Wuhan went into strict lockdown after coronavirus was first detected in the city in December 2019, before the virus spread to virtually every corner of the world.

Meanwhile, Chinese authorities have reported that no COVID-19 cases have been detected from community transmission in the city in more than a year now.

Such a massive graduation ceremony held at Wuhan has come under international scrutiny after the allegations that the coronavirus may have begun in the form of a lab leak at the city’s Wuhan Institute of Virology, a theory that the Chinese officials have completely denied.
