Lahore, 9th March: Former prime minister Yousaf Raza Gillani’s victory in the senate elections has been challenged in the Islamabad High Court (IHC).

Baaghi TV: According to reports, a member of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) from National Assembly (MNA) Ali Nawaz Awan has challenged the victory of Yousaf Raza Gillani in Senate elections in IHC on Tuesday.

As per reports, the PTI minister filed a petition in the Islamabad High Court through his counsel Adnan Iqbal Advocate to challenge the victory of Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) joint candidate Yousaf Raza Gillani in Senate elections on Islamabad seat.

The petition read that Gillani is a convicted person who is ineligible for the Upper House. The minister requested to nullify the victory notification of Gillani as he committed rigging in Senate polls.
The petitioner pleaded with the high court for the annulment of the Senate polls held on March 3.

As per sources, PPP’s Yousaf Raza Gillani, his son Ali Haider Gilani and the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) have been made parties in the case.

As reported earlier by Baaghi TV, a petition had also been filed with the Election Commission of Pakistan regarding the disqualification of PPP leader and former prime minister Yousaf Raza Gillani.

Petitioner Pervez Hussain had stated that Yousaf Raza Gillani was allegedly involved in fraud and that he should be disqualified under Article 62 and 63 of the Constitution.

It is pertinent to mention here that on March 3 Yousuf Raza Gilani had won his senate seat from Islamabad where he was contesting against Pakistan Tehreek e Insaf’s (PTI) Hafeez Shaikh in the National Assembly.
