Sept 16, 2021: The Noor Muqadam murder case heard in Islamabad High Court to rule on the bail plea of Zahir Jaffer’s parents

Lawyer Khawaja Harris read out the confessional statement of accused Zahir Jaffer from the challan. Khawaja Haris said that according to the police challan, Zahir Jaffer was in touch with his parents. Zakir Jaffer called the therapy works at 7:05 p.m. The court said that if the therapy works were called, the incident would have taken place at 6:30 to 7 p.m. The lawyer said that Zakir Jaffer called the police and said that apparently Jaffar’s condition was not good and they should take him away.

Justice Amir Farooq while talking to the lawyer said that we have to see what is the role of clients in the case. If the therapy works were called, the incident could have taken place between 6.30am and 7.30 pm. It is not written in the record who reported the incident to the police. The court inquired whether the client called Therapy Works at 7:05 p.m. and asked Zahir Jaffar to come to the rescue.

The lawyer replied in the court that there is a history regarding the mental condition of Zahir Jaffar. Justice Amir Farooq inquired whether 5 people of Therapy Works are also accused. On which the lawyer stated in the court that the employees of the therapy works are also accused of destroying evidence.

Giving arguments, Khawaja Harris said that the police conducted a one-sided investigation into the case, there are gray areas in the process of investigation, it is a case of prosecution that Zakir Jaffer sent the therapy workers to dispose of the body.

Harris said if they were sent to the scene after the murder, then where is the guilt in it? According to the police challan, Zahir Jaffar was in touch with his parents but there is no evidence Therapy Works was involved in disposing of the body or covering up the crime. He said the prosecution was basing the case on assumptions.

Meanwhile, the hearing of Zahir Jaffer’s parents bail case adjourned till tomorrow, Justice Amir Farooq while talking to lawyer said that we should see what is the role of the parents in the case? The lawyer told the court that the charges against Zakir Jaffer and Ismat Adamji also carry bailable clauses. The judge said there is an allegation of obstruction, adding that it is up to the police to prove whether the evidence on the calls was erased or not, the investigation process is not effective here.

Strict security arrangements were made during the hearing of Noor Muqadam murder case. The bail application of the parents of the accused in Noor Muqadam murder case has been rejected by the lower court which has been filed as an appeal in the Islamabad High Court. On the other hand, on the petition filed by gardener Jan Mohammad cook Jameel, the workers of the house of notorious killer Zahir Jaffer, the court had yesterday rejected the bail plea.

It should be noted that the daughter of the former ambassador was killed within the limits of Kohsar police station in Islamabad. Noor Muqaddam’s killer accused Zahir Jaffar, his parents and other accused are imprisoned in Adiala Jail. The US Embassy has since been in touch with Zahir Jaffer.
