290 Afghan Prisoners in Pakistan May Be Released Soon | Baaghi TV

The Afghanistan consul in Karachi city of Pakistan said that more than 290 citizens of the country who are in Pakistan prisons will be released in the two next months.

According to the Afghanistan consul in Karachi, out of 2,600 Afghan prisoners held in Pakistan, nearly 2350 of them, including women and children, have been released and returned to the country.

“We hope that in the next two months they will be released and for them we have a lawyer,” said Sayed Abdul Jabar, the Consul General of Afghanistan in Karachi, Pakistan.

Meanwhile, according to the Ministry of Refugees and Repatriation (MoRR), in the past month more than 28,000 country citizens have returned from Iran and Pakistan.

Abdul Mutalib Haqqani, a spokesman for the Ministry of Refugees and Repatriation, said that a committee headed by the Attorney General has been formed to deal with the problems of Afghan prisoners.

“In the last month nearly 28,000 refugees returned from Iran and Pakistan to the country and 5,000 of them returned from Pakistan,” said Abdul Mutalib Haqqani, the ministry’s spokesperson.

A lawyer defending Afghan prisoners in Pakistan said that some Afghan immigrants who travel to Pakistan for medical treatment are detained and tortured.

“Still Afghan refugees are tortured in Pakistan, they have arrested people who came to Pakistan for treatment and they separate women and children from the men and they torture the men,” said Sideq Kakar, a lawyer.

Based on the ministry’s numbers, six to eight million Afghan citizens are in other countries, especially in Iran and Pakistan.
