Lahore, 13th October: National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has issued orders of inquiry in New York’s Roosevelt Hotel.

According to Baaghi TV, Justice Javed Iqbal, chairman of the NAB, has ordered an inquiry into some media reports, including the closure of Pakistan’s famous Roosevelt Hotel in New York City from October 31, 2020.

The investigation will look into why Pakistan’s national asset Roosevelt Hotel, located in the heart of New York City, USA, needed to be closed, especially the reasons why the government of Pakistan allegedly lost millions of dollars.

In addition, those responsible will be identified as those who allegedly failed to perform their national duties and did not play a role in making the Roosevelt Hotel in New York City, USA, very profitable.

In New York, the PIA-owned Roosevelt Hotel had announced the closure. The administration says it has been closing the hotel since October 31 due to the current economic situation. The management removed the announcement of the closure of the hotel from the website a few hours later. PIA bought the Hotel in the 1990s for 36 million.

The hotel, named after US President Theodore Roosevelt, opened on September 23, 1924, and is now worth about 1 billion. News of US President Trump’s offer to buy the hotel is also making headlines on social media. A consultant was hired to review the hotel’s operation in a joint venture.

The Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) opposed the move at the “wrong time” following reports of a CCOP meeting to consider the sale of the Roosevelt Hotel.

PPP leader Senator Sherry Rehman said that Roosevelt Hotel along with PIA is also a target of the government. The government is ready to privatize the whole country at the request of the IMF.

Earlier, six members of PML-N had written a letter to National Assembly Speaker Asad Qaiser. PML-N raised constitutional objections on the privatization of Roosevelt Hotel.

A letter signed by Khawaja Asif and Mohsin Nawaz Ranjha has been sent to Speaker Asad Qaiser and the Standing Committee has raised the question why this PIA hotel is being sold at the moment?

The letter added that any such move is unconstitutional under the constitution and that the tourism and hotel sectors, like flights, have been badly affected by the coronavirus pandemic.
