Most of the Bollywood legends (1947-2000) were born and brought up in the cities/towns of Pakistan. They include — film directors/producers, lyricists/poets, music composers, actors and actresses.

FILM DIRECTORS / PRODUCERS:
1) Lekh Tandon (1929-2017), he was born in Sheikhupura and schooled in Lahore. He directed/produced films like — Professor, Amrapali, Jhuk Gaya Aasman, Agar Tum Na Hote etc.
2) Yash Chopra (1932-2012), he was born and brought up in Lahore, and directed/produced films like — Kabhi Kabhie, Noorie, Kaala Patthar, Veer-Zaara.
3) Chetan Anand (1921-97), he was actor Dev Anand’s elder brother, born/educated in Lahore. He directed/produced — Taxi Driver, Funtoosh, Aakhri Khat, Heer Ranjha, Hanste Zakhm, Kudrat.
4) Ramesh Sippy (1947-alive), he was born in Karachi, produced/directed — Sholay etc.
The list is long but I have included just 4 of these — who together produced more than 600 quality Bollywood films.

Dev Anand (1923-2011), born in Shakargarh — I have seen more than a 100 of his films.
Rajinder Kumar (1929-1999), born in Sialkot — I’ve seen more than 40 of his films.
Iftikhar Ahmed Syed (1920-95), he was born in Sialkot (not in Jalandhar) — acted in more than 200 films.
A.K. Hangal (1914-2012), born and educated in Sialkot — was a character-actor in over 200 films.
Sunil Dutt (1929-2005), born and schooled in Jhelum appeared in 200+ best films. Married actress Nargis – father of Sanjay Dutt.
Dilip Kumar, Prem Nath, Rajendra Nath, Vinod Khanna, Amjad Khan and half a dozen others were born/schooled in Peshawar — it will take several pages to mention their films.
Balraj Sanhi (1913-73), born in Bhera not Rawalpindi.
Prithviraj Kapoor (1906-72), born/schooled in Samandari (Faisalabad) — father of Rajkapoor, Shammi Kapoor, Shashi Kapoor – a large herd of Kapoor children. Prithviraj was educated at Edward’s College, Peshawar. His father Bash’nath Kapoor was Police Inspector/SHO Marine.
Raj Kumar (1926-96), born and schooled in Loralai, Balochistan – he was SP Police in Bombay – alongside a great actor.
Suresh Oberoi (1946-alive), born in Quetta
Qadir Khan (1937-2018), born in Pishin, Balochistan.

Nargis – Fatima Rasheed – (1929-81), was born in Calcutta but brought up/schooled in Rawalpindi. She married Sunil Dutt – Sanjay Dutt is her son. Nargis and Sunil Dutt took their Middle-standard exam together, in 1943.
Surayya (1929-2004), born and brought up in Gujranwala. Dev Anand and Surayya liked each other but couldn’t marry.
Geeta Bali (1930-65), born/schooled in Sargodha heshe married actor Shami Kapoor — but died at 35.
Sadhna (1941-2015), born in Karachi – she is cousin of actress Babita (wife of Randhir Kapoor — mother of Karishma & Karina).
Sheila Ramani (1932-2015), born/schooled in Hyderabad, Sindh. She was a dancing queen of 1950s/60s best films.
Kalpana Kartik (1931-alive), born and brought up in Lahore – married actor Dev Anand.
Bina Rai (1931-2009), born and schooled in Lahore — married actor Prem Nath.
Shyama – Khurshid Akhtar – (1935-2017), born in Lahore —one of the most beautiful actresses the Bollywood produced. She married Parsi director/producer Fali Mistry.
Achala Sachdev (1920-2012), born in Peshawar. She was a renowned character-actress.
Kamini Kaushal (1927-alive), born and educated in Lahore – acted in more than 100 best films.

POETS / LYRICISTS:
Shailendra (1923-66), born and brought up in Rawalpindi, wrote more than 500 best songs of 1950s/60s – died early. I remember half of them.
Anand Bakshi (1930-2002), born and schooled in Rawalpindi — wrote more than 1,000 best songs over 55 years. I remember more than 300 of them.
Rajinder Krishan (1919-87), born and schooled in Jalalpur Jattan – wrote over 300 best dongs – I remember more than a 100 of these.
Gulzar – Sampooran Singh Kalra (1934-alive), born and brought up in Dina, Jhelum. He married actress Rakhee — has written more than 500 best songs — I know a 100 of these.
Raja Mehdi Ali Khan (1915-66), born and brought up in Wazirabad, his mother Haba Khatun was a great poet too. His maternal uncle was Maulana Zafar Ali Khan – Raja Mehdi write over a 100 songs – and each one of them was superhit.
Gulshan Bawra (1937-2009), born and brought up in Sheikhupura – he wrote more than 200 good songs.
Although most Muslim songwriters were born/lived in India and wrote more than 3,000 quality songs – the best Urdu songs were produced by Hindu poets, born in the Pakistani towns before partition.

Madan Mohan (1924-75), born in Erbil (Iraq) — but brought up in Chakwal – composed over 500 super songs – I know almost all of them.
O.P. Nayyar (1926-2007), born and educated in Lahore – produced more than 500 quality songs – I know most of them.
Roshan (1917-67), born and educated in Gujranwala – composed 200+ best songs.
Although the Indian-born music directors Naushad, Salil Chaudhry, Usha Khanna, Mukul Roy, Dulal Sen, Hemant Kumar, Kishore Kumar, Shankar Jai Kishan, Kalyanji Anandji, Laxmikant Piyare Laal, Khayam, Sardar Malik composed more than 10,000 best songs during 1940s, 50s, 60s, 70s and 80s – Madan Mohan, O.P. Nayyar , Roshan – were a different league of music maestros.
