"Educated nations'' should stay away from the Pak-India conflict: Afridi

Former national cricket team captain Shahid Khan Afridi has said, ”educated nations should stay away from the Pak-India conflict and make their own decisions.”

Speaking on the program “Cricket Corner with Saleem Khaliq”, Shahid Afridi talked about the cancellation of the tour of New Zealand and England team. During the interview, he said, ”the decision of New Zealand to cancel the tour was wrong and unacceptable. Kiwi cricketers have fans in Pakistan, their attitude is unforgivable.”

Afridi also said, ”if there were any security concerns, they would inform the PCB so that Pakistani forces could investigate. I think if there are protocols to come, if a team has to go, it should have a procedure. We always supported others, played as ambassadors for sports abroad but they did not.”

When asked about threatening emails from India, Shahid Afridi replied, “We can tell who is behind the issue if we look at it from a bigger viewpoint. Fake emails should not be taken seriously.”

Educated nations should stay out of the Pakistan-India conflict and make their own decisions, he added.

The former captain Afridi also said, ”ICC also has a responsibility, it should intervene in such matters. Unwarranted cancellation of tours by teams is creating problems for Pakistan cricket. The governing body of the game should not remain silent, and decisions will also have to be made so that they can tell the world that we also have some respect”.

Asked about the advice to boycott the World Cup, Afridi said, “These are emotional things. We have to win matches and respond to our critics. We have to give our best in the mega event.”

He also added, ”Rameez Raja played cricket, commented, he lived with many great people and he has seen the world. So he understands cricket well and he hopes to succeed in changing the system, for which he will make difficult decisions.”

The chairman has changed and many faces have been appearing in the PCB for 15-20 years. They have to be replaced. “Grassroots cricket is over in the country. It has to be brought back. If good students can be found in schools and colleges. It is possible to meet cricketers, they have to be given opportunities,” he said.

Shahid Afridi wants to coach junior cricketers. He said that it would be a great honor for him to work for Pakistan in any way.

“I think it would be better if players who have spent a long time in international cricket work for juniors. And these cricketers including Abdul Razzaq are role models of youngsters. If they get a chance to learn, their performance will improve. If I get a chance, I would also like to coach juniors,” Afridi said.

Furthermore, he added, ”his cricket innings is coming to an end, now he wanted to give time to his foundation. Asked about the representation of Quetta Gladiators in PSL 7, he said that if Multan Sultans owner Alamgir Tareen left he will think of another franchise.”
