AGP Limited to Launch Locally Manufactured Viagra in Pakistan Next Month

AGP Limited, a leading Pakistani pharmaceutical company, has received board approval to manufacture and market Viagra (sildenafil citrate) in Pakistan through an arrangement with an associated company. The product is expected to hit the market in May 2026, marking another milestone in the country’s domestic production of erectile dysfunction (ED) medicines.

The development comes as Pakistan continues to shift from reliance on imported and smuggled ED drugs to regulated local manufacturing. Following the Drug Regulatory Authority of Pakistan’s (DRAP) policy decision in 2024–2025 to allow registration of sildenafil and tadalafil products, several local firms have already begun producing generic versions. AGP’s move adds a significant player to the growing list, aiming to improve quality, availability, and affordability while reducing the black-market trade.

Sildenafil citrate, the active ingredient in the globally renowned Viagra brand, is used to treat erectile dysfunction in adult men. For years, strict regulatory resistance in Pakistan had pushed the drug into unregulated channels, raising concerns over counterfeit and substandard products. The policy reversal has enabled companies like Genix Pharma and others to introduce registered formulations, with AGP now set to follow suit.

According to company sources, necessary agreements are being finalized, and commercial production is on track for a May launch. This step is expected to support AGP’s broader ambition to strengthen its position in Pakistan’s pharmaceutical sector.

Health experts and industry observers view the expansion of local ED drug manufacturing as a pragmatic public health measure. Regulated production under DRAP oversight ensures better quality control and safety compared to previously smuggled alternatives.
