Another blast reported during rescue operation at Sher Shah Chowk

KARACHI: According to a Baaghi TV report, another blast took place during a rescue operation at Sher Shah Chowk in Karachi.

No casualties were reported in the second blast. SSGC teams are investigating the possible cause of the blast. According to reports, the second blast was caused by an electric cable spark at the scene in Sher Shah Racha Chowk.

Earlier, an explosion took place in Sher Shah area of Karachi. At least 10 people have been declared dead and 12 others injured in an explosion at Sher Shah Paracha Chowk. The sound of the explosion was heard far away.

Heavy contingents of police rushed to the spot and cordoned off the area. The injured were shifted to a nearby hospital for medical treatment. Police say an investigation is underway to determine the nature of the blast which also damaged vehicles parked nearby. The blast took place on the ground floor of a two-storey building of Habib Bank at Sher Shah Paracha Chowk. The nature of the blast will be determined after the report of the Bomb Disposal Squad.

Rescue operations are underway at the scene, with some people feared to have been buried under the rubble as the walls of the building collapsed. Police also say the blast took place in a drain. The 2-storey building was built on the drain. The injured have been shifted to Civil Hospital, the bodies have also been shifted to Government Hospital.

Edhi, Chhipa volunteers are also present on the scene. Heavy machinery has also been called in to remove the debris. Most of the office equipment in the building was washed away. According to reports, there were banks and offices in the building, the road was affected by the blast, part of it collapsed.

The list of those injured and killed in the blast has come to light. Those killed in the blast include Mirabat Khan, Munawar Khan, Zeeshan, Muhammad Younis, Inamullah Shah, and Shafiullah. The four bodies have not yet been identified. The injured include Ghulam Mustafa, Muhammad Arshad, Ghulam Akbar, Jamil Ahmed, Abdul Ghaffar, Hammad, Riaz Mahmood, Kashmir Khan, Soba Khan, Abdul Wahab, and an unknown.

Chairman Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Bilawal Bhutto Zardari expressed regret over the loss of precious human lives in the blast in Sher Shah area of Karachi. Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari directed that immediate investigation be started to determine the nature and prevention of the blast. Immediate treatment of all persons injured in the blast should be ensured.

Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah took notice of the blast near Sher Shah. The Sindh Chief Minister directed Commissioner Karachi to conduct an inquiry and said that a police officer should be included in the inquiry. The Sindh Chief Minister also directed the Health Secretary to provide facilities in the Civil Hospital. He also directed the administration to reach the hospital and the scene and provide all possible assistance to the victims.
