Baaghi TV Exclusive: Hopes for Lifting ICAO Ban Fades...

Baaghi TV Exclusive: The International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) had issued a serious warning to the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) of Pakistan over their pilot licensing issue and failure to meet international standards as required by ICAO.

According to the details, in a letter dated November 3, 2020, ICAO had identified a Significant Safety Concern (SSC) which remains unresolved by Pakistan Civil Aviation Authority in relation to the licensing process for pilots.

Baaghi TV has learnt from reliable sources within the Aviation Division that the ban imposed by ICAO may not be lifted yet again over safety concerns and the licensing process within the CAA.

Moreover, the aviation sources told Baaghi TV that at least six more months will be given to the regulatory body of Pakistan to improve their licensing process and safety protocols.

It is to be remembered that earlier, ICAO had earlier expressed dissatisfaction over CAA’s licensing process, claiming it ignores international safety standards. ICAO had barred the CAA from issuing new licences to pilots, air traffic controllers, engineers, and flight attendants over concerns about its safety protocols.

The scam cam to light after Aviation Minister Ghulam Sarwar Khan, while addressing Pakistan’s National Assembly, said that the country has 860 active pilots serving its domestic airlines, as well as some foreign carriers, and that 262 have fake licences and are not qualified to fly. After the statement, international bodies started to point fingers on the merit and credibility of the Ministry of Aviation and the Civil Aviation Authority.

The question is when we will actually realize that our Aviation industry is at verge of collapse due to the incompetent Director General (DG) CAA. We need a capable person as DG CAA to bring this industry out of the rock bottom. No Aviation policy can be great unless its implementation is done by competent people.
