The death toll from the blasts at the Beirut port has risen to 157, with more than 5,000 injured being treated at various hospitals.
According to details, the army has been given full powers to control the situation that sent shock-waves across the city, causing widespread damage as far as the outskirts of the city.
Lebanese authorities have arrested 16 people, including the manager of the Beirut port, and a search operation is underway to find those missing in the blasts. Lebanese officials have also expressed fears of an increase in casualties.

On the other hand, anti-government protests have erupted after the blasts while clashes erupted between protesters and security forces near parliament, with protesters claiming the blast was the result of government negligence. The French president also visited the Lebanese capital and called for a global investigation into the tragedy.
It is noteworthy that on August 4 (Tuesday) there were catastrophic explosions at the port of Beirut, the capital of Lebanon. According to the authorities, the explosions were caused by 2,750 tons of ammonium nitrate stored illegally since 2013.

The blast destroyed entire districts of the capital, turned houses and businesses into rubble, and left dozens missing.
Two officials have resigned since the disaster, with Lebanese MP Marwan Hamada stepping down on Wednesday, while Lebanon’s ambassador to Jordan, Tracy Chamoun, resigned on Thursday, saying the disaster demands change in leadership.
