Chairman NAB’s Top Priority to Bring Corruption Cases to Logical Conclusion

Islamabad, September 04, (Online Int’l): National Accountability Bureau Chairman Justice (retd) Javed Iqbal has said that NAB’s first priority is to bring white collar crimes and mega-corruption cases to a logical conclusion.

Chairman NAB said that corruption is the root cause of all evils. In a statement chairman NAB said that NAB is the focal point under the UN Convention against corruption while Pakistan has signed the UNCAC.  He also said that the World Economic Forum, Transparency International Pakistan, PILDAT and Mashal Pakistan have praised the NAB’s efforts to eradicate corruption.

He added that the areas of operation, prosecution, and human resource development, training research, awareness and prevention have been activated to further improve the performance of the NAB.

He said the NAB received 53,643 complaints in 2019 out of which 42,760 have been disposed of while in 2018 NAB received 48,591 complaints out of which 41,414 were disposed off. The increase in complaints shows the public’s confidence in the NAB, said by chairman NAB. He said NAB examined 1308 complaints during 2019, handled 1686 inquiries and 609 investigations.

In the last two years, Rs 363 billion was recovered from corrupt elements and deposited in the national exchequer. He said that the overall conviction rate in NAB cases is 68.8% which is a great achievement in white collar crime cases in the world.
