China has issued a strong warning that it will respond decisively if the United States imposes new tariffs linked to what Beijing calls baseless and fabricated allegations of providing military aid to Iran.

The statement follows President Donald Trump’s explicit threat to slap a staggering 50% tariff on Chinese goods should Beijing be found supplying weapons or military assistance to Tehran amid the ongoing regional conflict. US officials have pointed to intelligence suggesting possible transfers of air defense systems or other equipment.

Chinese officials have firmly rejected the claims as “groundless smears” and “malicious associations,” insisting that China maintains a prudent and responsible policy on military exports and has not provided, nor intends to provide, arms to any party involved. They urged Washington to avoid unfounded accusations that could escalate tensions unnecessarily.”

China has consistently taken a prudent and responsible approach to arms exports,” a Foreign Ministry spokesperson stated, emphasizing strict controls in line with domestic laws and international obligations. Beijing called on all sides to focus on de-escalation rather than sensational claims.

The developments come as the US Navy has begun enforcing a blockade on Iranian ports and parts of the Strait of Hormuz following the breakdown of recent ceasefire talks. The move has already disrupted shipping routes, driven up global oil prices, and raised concerns about broader economic repercussions.
