Cricketer Abhishek Sharma Seeks Delhi High Court Protection for Personality Rights

Indian international cricketer Abhishek Sharma has approached the Delhi High Court seeking safeguards for his personality rights following the widespread circulation of defamatory and AI-manipulated content on social media platforms.

In the petition, Sharma has targeted misleading images and posts that falsely portray personal relationships. One such manipulated photograph allegedly uses artificial intelligence to depict him alongside his manager, presenting her as his girlfriend.

Justice Jyoti Singh heard the matter and adjourned the proceedings to July 9, 2026. The court directed Sharma’s counsel to file an additional affidavit to clarify the screenshot evidence, after observing inconsistencies in the material initially presented.

The move underscores growing concerns among public figures over the misuse of deepfake technology and digital manipulation to tarnish reputations. Sharma, known for his explosive batting in the Indian Premier League and recent international appearances, is seeking legal recourse to protect his image and prevent further dissemination of such content.

The case will be listed for further hearing on Wednesday.
