Davos Summit postponed as Omicron Virus surges

Baaghi TV: World Economic Forum’s Davos Summit scheduled in Switzerland on Monday gets postponed due to the rapid increase in Omicron virus victims. Other important events may also suffer a similar postponement considering the present state.

According to reports, the Davos Summit is held every year with many international leaders, businessmen, industrialists and other noble people attending the meeting known as “The World Economic Forum”. This year the Summit has been delayed due to the spread of a new variant of the Corona virus.

A statement from the World Economic Forum said: “Davos World Economic Forum is postponing its annual meeting in Switzerland due to the ongoing uncertainty over the expansion of Omicron. The meeting that was to scheduled to happen this Monday has been moved to summer notably from January 17 to January 21 in order to review economic, political, environmental and various other issues. Following the latest sanctions imposed regarding the rapid spread of the new variant of Corona, the meeting is now delayed until later”.

On the hand, the mayor of US capital, Washington, has declared a state of emergency following a dramatic increase in the number of people infected with the corona virus. Washington has recorded the largest number of corona patients on Monday ever since the outbreak began. US educational institutions and universities have been forced to re-impose sanctions following the deadly virus.

Harvard University has announced that online classes will be held for the first three weeks of January in an effort to curb the spread of Omicron at the university. Stanford University has decided to conduct online classes for the first two weeks of the new semester starting January 3. Princeton, Cornell and Middleberry universities are said to be conducting their exams online. New York University has canceled all unnecessary gatherings and instructed teachers to take physical exams maintaining the safe distance.

The New York Times also reported that the spread of the Omicron in the United States on New Year’s Eve has raised suspicions among its citizens about New Year’s celebrations. Ninety percent of new corona patients in most parts of the United States have been found to be infected with the new omicron variant as mentioned in ABC’s report said.

The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has announced that the spread of omicron virus in the country could accelerate rapidly. More than 827,000 people have lost their lives ever since it all began. The World Health Organization (WHO) has warned that the number of people affected by the omicron variant of Corona virus in the world is doubling in more than 36 hours.
