Delhi (7th Mar, 2020): Indian Muslims have been forced to hide away their religious identity in the aftermath of Delhi riots. 

According to Baaghi TV’s reports, Muslims in India have been forced to hide their religious identity after the US President Donald Trump’s visit to the state during the Muslim riots in Delhi. Many Muslims have reportedly changed their names, and women have taken off their burqas as a security measure against the terror created by the Hindutva mindset.

According to Indian media reports, a citizen who was traveling on the subway towards Shaheen Bagh encountered a 50-year-old man asked him if he was going towards Shaheen Bagh, when he replied that Shaheen Bagh comes after three stations, he saw a disturbing look pass the man’s face and that the older man looked upset throughout the remaining trip. Reportedly, when the man got off the train, he took his hat off and put it in his pocket.

A girl studying at the Jamia Millia Islamia who used to cover her head with a veil has now given up her hijab. She says that people talk to me in a heartfelt way and also advise me to stay at home because I am a Muslim. She added that people advise her to give up the hijab because going out in hijab will endanger her life.

Although the Delhi riots took place a week ago, yet the fear for Muslims has still not subsided. Many families had reportedly left the area and are no longer willing to return. The Kejriwal government is not providing any security to the Muslims; many families have started settling into refugee camps. Reportedly, about 155 people have left their houses following the riots.

Muslims’ homes were burnt, religious places were disgraced and a mosque was even martyred. A shrine was burnt down in Bhajanpura, while the mosque was set on fire in Ashok Nagar and the flag of Hanuman was hoisted on its minarets by extremist Hindus following the Hindutva mindset.

Moreover, the violence of Hindu extremists has left nearly 53 people dead and more than 400 injured, as the Delhi Police continues to support Hindu extremists who have been looting and torturing Muslims in their homes. Even journalists have reportedly been attacked for highlighting the issue.
