The dengue infection kept on spreading over in 2021, with the case count coming to 52,894 by December 31, as per the Ministry of National Health Services (NHS).

The lethal infection took 224 lives in the earlier year, Director-General Dr. Rana Safdar told Geo.tv.

The cases and the loss of life are the most elevated starting around 2019 — when 95 deaths and 53,498 cases were accounted for. In 2020, just 6,016 cases were enrolled, while no deaths were recorded.

Of the complete cases recorded till December 31, 2021, most of the cases — 26,261 — were accounted for in Punjab, trailed by Khyber Pakhtunkhwa where 10,617 cases were enlisted.

In Punjab, 163 deaths were accounted for while KP enrolled 10 deaths. In Sindh, 6,739 instances of the mosquito-borne illness were recorded, while 28 individuals had capitulated to the sickness.

Islamabad detailed upwards of 5,315 dengue cases and 22 casualties, Balochistan 2,269 cases and no deaths, Azad Jammu and Kashmir 1,693 cases and one demise.

While the main affirmed episode of dengue fever was recorded in Pakistan in 1994, Pakistan has been encountering a plague of dengue fever starting around 2010 as featured by the World Health Organization.
