Donald Trump says 'we don't have anybody to talk to' Putin

Jan 30, 2022: According to an AFP report, former US President Donald Trump has suggested he would pardon some of those charged for their part in the assault on the US Capitol last year if he were reelected in the 2024 presidential vote.

At a rally Texas, Trump said; “If I run, and if I win we will treat those people from January 6th fairly. We will treat them fairly. And if it requires pardons, we will give them pardons because they are being treated so unfairly.”

Hundreds of Trump supporters stormed the US legislature in Washington on January 6 last year to prevent President Joe Biden from being confirmed in the November 2020 election. More than 700 people have been arrested as part of an investigation into the riots that killed five people and rocked the country. Most defendants face charges not of violence or vandalism but simply of entering a building illegally and generally of misdemeanours.

However, some lengthy sentences have been handed down, and more than 225 people charged with aggravated assault could face serious consequences in court. Trump has repeatedly spoken out against lawsuits against rioters.

The former president has been accused of inciting capitalist violence by claiming electoral fraud, a claim never confirmed by states, the Department of Justice or US courts.

A House of Representatives select committee is also in the midst of investigating how the attack took place and whether Trump and members of his circle had a part in encouraging it.

Donald Trump hit out at the committee on Saturday, calling its work a “disgrace.”
