Eight people killed when a hotel in China collapsed
SHANGHAI: According to official media, a portion of a hotel in the Chinese city of Suzhou fell, killing eight people, and rescue personnel were searching for nine individuals missing in the ruins on Tuesday.
On Monday afternoon, a portion of the Siji Kaiyuan Hotel in the coastal city collapsed. According to media reports, the Ministry of Emergency Management dispatched a team to assist with the rescue efforts.
According to the Xinhua news agency, the cause of the collapse is being investigated. It uploaded images of rescue personnel searching through the rubble for survival.
The Siji Kaiyuan is a newly opened cheap hotel. The three-story portion that fell contained 54 rooms, according to an online booking site.
