According to the report of Baaghi TV, the funeral prayers of former accountability court judge Arshad Malik have been offered.

A large number of people attended the funeral prayers. After the funeral, the deceased’s body was transported to his native village, where he was laid to rest.

Former Judge Arshad Malik died yesterday at a private hospital in Islamabad. According to reports, Malik was ill for several days and was undergoing treatment at a private hospital.

Judge Arshad Malik had in December 2018 sentenced former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif to seven years in prison for his involvement in the Azizia Steel Mill case. Following the verdict, Maryam Nawaz released an alleged video in which he was heard saying that he was under pressure to convict former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif in the Azizia Steel Mills case.

Following the revelation of the voice note, the Chief Justice of the Islamabad High Court, Athar Minallah, barred Arshad Malik from acting as a judge of the Accountability Court due to his misconduct and ordered him to report to the Lahore High Court. Arshad Malik was posted on deputation in Islamabad and was a subordinate to the Lahore High Court.

In the judge video case, Arshad Malik had on October 3rd challenged the dismissal in the Punjab Subordinate Judiciary Service Tribunal. The petition challenged the decision of the management committee of the Lahore High Court. Judge Arshad Malik was dismissed on the recommendations of the report of the management committee. Judge Arshad Malik, in his petition, requested that the verdict be reconsidered as misconduct was not committed.

It should be noted that PML-N leader Maryam Nawaz had released a video of Judge Arshad Malik after which the services of the accountability court judge were again handed over to the Lahore High Court. Judge Arshad Malik, in his affidavit, termed the video as fake and said, “I was threatened and blackmailed.”

Former Accountability Court Judge Arshad Malik had been made OSD by the Lahore High Court. OSD creation notification had been issued. Chief Justice of Lahore High Court approved the appointment of Judge Arshad Malik as OSD. Following the order of the Supreme Court, the services of Judge Arshad Malik were transferred from the Accountability Court to the Lahore High Court. Later, Judge Arshad Malik was sacked.

During the hearing of the case in the Supreme Court, the Chief Justice had said that the judges were ashamed of Arshad Malik’s role.

The Supreme Court further directed the Lahore High Court to take action against Judge Arshad Malik. Justice Umar Ata Bandial said that those who fabricated the story saved their lives. The Chief Justice said that the Lahore High Court could take action.

The Chief Justice said, why the federal government has kept Arshad Malik with it so far? The services of Judge Arshad Malik should be returned immediately. What does the government want to do with Arshad Malik? The government is protecting Arshad Malik by not sending him back.
