George Floyd is Not On Trial; Derek Chauvin Is: Attorney Justin Miller

29th March 2021: Attorney Justin Miller stood in for Attorney Chris Stewart at the press conference before the trial went underway for Derek Chauvin, who killed George Floyd.

He said it is not George Floyd who is on trial here, but Derek Chauvin who killed him.

“This is about America being America, not just for some of us but for all of us. Thus family has been suffering for a long time and will continue to suffer, long after you have gone and all of us have gone from their lives”, he said.

“There is no real justice in a murder trial, because the one who is gone cannot come back, but what we and this trial CAN do, is to ensure that no other family has to suffer like this family suffered. When there is torture and murder like this, there has to be retribution. This is about a man who pressed his knee over a man for 8 minutes and 46 seconds, for all the world to see.”

“I was explaining to my 7 and 10 year old children why I flew to Minnesota during a pandemic to represent this family. I had to look into their faces and explain why America is different for them and why this has to change and help them to understand what is going on.”

“This courtroom in Minnesota can usher in the behining of a new era: for Minneapolis, for Minnesota, for America, and for the whole world. The world should keep its eyes on Minnesota, because here it will all start.”
