Gojra gang rape: Rental vehicle used by perpetrators seized

Oct 15, 2021: Police have seized a rental vehicle used in the suspected gang-rape of an 18-year-old woman on the M4 motorway near Gojra, police officials were quoted as saying on Friday.

An 18-year-old woman was allegedly raped by unidentified men on the M4 Motorway in Gojra under the pretext of giving her a job at a shop, police had revealed a day earlier after arresting a key accused and another accused.

The accused fled after throwing out the young woman at Faisalabad Interchange.

According to police, a case was registered on October 11 on the complaint of the young woman’s aunt, after which two accused, including the main accused, were arrested.

Police say the rental vehicle used in the gang-rape has been seized. In an initial statement, the main accused had said that the young woman had befriended him on her mobile phone 15 days ago, police added, adding that on the day of the rape, the girl and her friend left Faisalabad on his orders under the guise of a securing a job opportunity.

The Gojra DSP said that Geo Forensics revealed that there was a mobile phone contact between the accused and the victim 15 days before the rape. Law enforcement said pictures of the young woman were also found on the suspect’s phone.

Police say the woman has no permanent address, adding that they managed to trace her in Multan, Faisalabad and Toba Tek Singh through call data records. She was summoned by police for questioning.

The Gojra DSP, however, said that law enforcement agencies could not contact her despite repeated attempts.

In the FIR, the victim’s aunt said that her 18-year-old niece got a message on her mobile phone for a job interview in Gojra.

She said that when they reached there, the accused put the young woman in the car and took her away and raped her on the motorway. Police confirmed that the young woman had undergone a medical examination.

Punjab Chief Minister Usman Bazdar and Inspector General Rao Sardar Ali took notice of the gang rape and demanded a report from Faisalabad RPO.

The IG said that justice should be ensured for the victims on priority basis.

On September 9 last year, two men raped a woman on the motorway in the Gujjarpura area of ​​Lahore. The men smashed the windscreen of a car parked on the motorway and pulled the woman and her children out, after which they cut a net around the road and took them all to nearby bushes and then raped the woman in front of her children.
