Government Warns Power Consumers of QR Code Scam in Subsidy Scheme

The government has issued a public alert warning electricity consumers about hackers exploiting fake subsidy schemes to steal personal information through fraudulent QR codes.

According to the spokesperson for the Power Division, cybercriminals are misleading consumers by asking them to click on suspicious links and complete a four-step process to share sensitive information.

The spokesperson said consumers are later instructed to enter a six-digit verification code on the same link, raising serious concerns about data theft and online fraud.

Authorities warned that certain elements are attempting to misuse QR codes for malicious purposes. Consumers were advised that electricity bill-related information should not be entered on any unauthorized platform.

The Power Division clarified that the method being used to collect information is illegal and fraudulent. Law enforcement agencies have been informed about the activities of the criminal elements involved.

Consumers have been strongly advised not to provide any personal information digitally or on paper in the name of electricity subsidies.
