Govt of Pakistan cancels its MOU with DRF

The Government of Pakistan (GOP) and its Economic Affairs Division (EAD) have canceled their Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Nighat Dad’s Digital Rights Foundation (DRF) in light of the case filed against her for embezzlement of funds from abroad.

According to sources, the GOP has terminated its Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Nighat Dad’s NGO Digital Rights Foundation (DRF) after an inquiry was done against her, which came after the case against her NGO wherein it was accused of embezzling millions of dollars.

The lawyer and activist was accused of receiving a large number of funds from abroad which were allegedly to be used for tarnishing Pakistan’s name internationally.

Furthermore, according to sources, a letter was sent by Nighat Dad to the Ministry of Economic Affairs in which she states that the MOU is being terminated (with immediate effect) after the EAD considered the timeline of her NGO’s submitted projects and saw that it had expired. She further went on to state that under the 2013 policy, DRF may apply anew for any foreign-funded projects.
