IAF Trainee Aircraft Crashes into Pond in UP

A trainee aircraft belonging to the Indian Air Force (IAF) crashed into a pond in Prayagraj during a routine training flight on Wednesday afternoon, officials confirmed. Both pilots on board, a trainee and an instructor, were rescued unharmed and are reported to be in stable condition.

The incident occurred near KP College, in the vicinity of Bamrauli Airport (also associated with the IAF’s Central Air Command operations). Eyewitnesses described the small propeller-driven aircraft, identified in reports as a microlight trainer, losing control mid-air before plunging into the water body. Preliminary accounts suggest a possible technical issue or loss of control during low-altitude maneuvers.

Local residents, emergency services, fire teams, and divers quickly responded to the scene. Rescue operations were swift, with the partially submerged wreckage located and the crew extracted without major injuries. No civilian casualties, ground damage, or property loss were reported.

The IAF has launched an investigation to determine the exact cause, with involvement expected from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) as well. Further official details, including the aircraft type confirmation and any contributing factors, are awaited.
