Lahore, 25th April: The International Cricket Council (ICC) is being biased with India where the Indian Premier League (IPL) matches are still going on amid the record-breaking increase in coronavirus cases on daily basis.
However, if things are to be observed, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) was forced to cancel its Pakistan Super League (PSL) not quite a long ago in fear of COVID-19 cases surging in Pakistan.
As a matter of fact, the money talks IPL stages the biggest financial numbers so all the boards, players, and the governing body turn a blind eye towards the most dangerous situation and carry on with the game.
It has been a number of times that the world has witnessed the biased approach of ICC towards our neighboring country India.
IPL has given the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) big leverage in ICC and it would not be false to say ICC has become a puppet in the hands of BCCI who gets all its desires approved from the cricket governing body with a blink of an eye.
The current uprise and new COVID variant mutation are dangerous and out of control but what’s interesting to note is no player is raising any concern nor ICC seems to be giving it any importance as the finances involved are high.
Hence, BCCI does not want to erupt the money-making tournament by postponing and causing huge loss to the sponsors.
Had it been any other league in the world, ICC would have felt compelled to intervene and put a stop in the wake of health danger to the players.
This is bad for the game and ICC is not realizing this will give huge leverage to BCCI and the international expansion and game following will take a beating.
Struggling boards are facing challenges as they find it had to attract players and if this trend of league cricket preference of national duty prevails then ICC will lose its status.
No doubt coronavirus is serious and the player safety should be more than pleasing the BCCI.
