IIOJ&K Police Searches Over 20 Locations In Sopore In Jamaat-E-Islami UAPA Probe

IIOJK: Police on Sunday conducted searches at more than 20 locations in the Sopore area of Baramulla district as part of an ongoing investigation into a case registered under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) against the banned organisation Jamaat-e-Islami (JeI).

Officials said the coordinated searches targeted residential houses linked to individuals associated with the proscribed outfit. Reports indicated that the operations covered around 26 locations across Sopore, carried out jointly by probe agencies and security forces.

The action forms part of a broader crackdown on alleged underground networks connected to the banned group. Jamaat-e-Islami was first banned in 2019, with the prohibition later extended. Further details on any seizures or arrests from the Sunday operation were awaited as the searches continued.

Police described the moves as linked to a UAPA case registered by Sopore police. Similar search operations against JeI-linked networks have taken place in the region in recent months, including earlier raids in Sopore and elsewhere in the Valley.
