IIOJK: Crowds took to the streets in parts of the Kashmir Valley on Wednesday to mark the newly announced two-week ceasefire between the United States and Iran, with many participants viewing the development as a triumph for Tehran.

Journalis shared video footage showing processions, particularly in Shia-dominated areas, where people waved Iranian flags and carried portraits while chanting in support of Iran. The celebrations come hours after the US, Israel, and Iran agreed to a temporary halt in hostilities.

Under the deal, the United States and Israel have suspended planned military strikes on Iran for two weeks, while Iran has committed to reopening the Strait of Hormuz to international shipping. The pause is intended to allow negotiations toward a longer-term agreement, with US President Donald Trump describing elements of Iran’s proposed 10-point plan as “workable.”

The Strait of Hormuz, a critical chokepoint for global oil supplies, had been disrupted amid the recent escalation that began with US-Israeli actions against Iran in February.

Reactions in India have been sharply critical, with many online users questioning the displays of allegiance to a foreign power and pointing out that the truce is only temporary. Some noted that neither side has achieved decisive gains, while others called the framing of the ceasefire as an Iranian victory overstated.

The agreement was mediated in part through regional efforts, including statements from Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, and follows failed attempts at UN resolutions on the strait.
