Tensions between India and Bangladesh have escalated further. India has designated its diplomatic missions in Bangladesh as non-family postings, recalling the wives and children of Indian diplomats and staff stationed in Dhaka and other cities back to India immediately.

According to sources in the Indian Ministry of External Affairs, this decision was made due to increasing security threats and political instability in Bangladesh. India has expressed concerns that the situation could become even more tense ahead of the general elections scheduled for February 2026 in Bangladesh.

It is noteworthy that until now, India had placed only four countries—Pakistan, Afghanistan, Iraq, and South Sudan—in the non-family category, and Bangladesh has now been added to this list.

Under the new orders, essential staff at the Indian High Commission in Dhaka and assistant missions in other cities—Chittagong, Rajshahi, Khulna, and Sylhet—will continue their duties as usual, while the process of returning family members is being completed.
