India has approved the Ujh Canal Project in Kathua Plan to stop water flowing towards Pakistan

Indian Union Minister of State Dr. Jitendra Singh has stated that a new canal system on the Ujh River in the border district of Kathua in Indian-occupied Jammu and Kashmir has been approved. The purpose of this project is to stop the excess water flowing towards Pakistan and utilize it within India.

Dr. Jitendra Singh presided over a high-level meeting with the district administration in Kathua and informed that this canal system will be built alongside the Ujh Multipurpose Project. The proposal has been cleared by the Ministry of Defence and the Ministry of Home Affairs.

He claimed that this step will prevent India’s rightful share of excess water from going to waste, which is currently flowing towards Pakistan. He further said that the Narendra Modi government has restarted several decades-old stalled projects, including the Ujh Multipurpose Project and the Shahpur Kandi Dam. These projects will not only promote regional development but also ensure the proper utilization of India’s water.

It is worth noting that the Ujh Multipurpose Project is being built on the Ujh River, a tributary of the Ravi River, and is important for electricity generation, irrigation, and drinking water supply.
