India has signed a contract with Russia to procure surface-to-air missiles worth Rs 2,182 crore, despite US sanctions on Moscow.

The deal aims to boost the Indian Navy’s air defense capabilities.

Simultaneously, India has inked a separate contract with Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) for six ALH Mk-III helicopters for the Coast Guard, valued at Rs 2,901 crore.

The Shtil missile system can engage aerial targets up to 45 km away, enhancing the Navy’s rapid-reaction capabilities.

Interestingly, this deal comes amid US President Donald Trump’s warnings that countries maintaining trade ties with Russia would face severe sanctions.
