India Successfully Test-Fires Two Pralay Missiles in Salvo Mode Off Odisha Coast

In a significant boost to India’s indigenous defence capabilities, the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) on Wednesday successfully conducted a salvo launch of two ‘Pralay’ quasi-ballistic missiles in quick succession from a single launcher at Dr APJ Abdul Kalam Island off the Odisha coast.

The tests, carried out as part of user evaluation trials around 10:00-10:30 AM, saw both missiles follow their predetermined quasi-ballistic trajectories with high precision, achieving all mission objectives. Tracking sensors deployed by the Integrated Test Range at Chandipur confirmed the successful impacts.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh commended the DRDO, Indian Armed Forces, public sector undertakings, and industry partners for the achievement. “The successful salvo launch establishes the reliability of the Pralay system and enhances our operational firepower,” he said in a statement.

The Pralay is a surface-to-surface short-range quasi-ballistic missile with a strike range of 150-500 km. Powered by solid propellant, it features advanced inertial navigation and manoeuvrability to evade missile defences, making it ideal for precision strikes on high-value targets like enemy radar sites, command centres, and airstrips. It can carry conventional warheads weighing 500-1,000 kg.

This salvo launch demonstrates the system’s rapid-fire capability from a mobile launcher, a key tactical advantage. The tests follow earlier successful range validation trials in July 2025 and build on the missile’s development since its maiden flight in 2021.
