Indian-Origin Google Techie Shot Dead by Husband in US Home; Son Injured

A senior Indian-origin engineering leader at Google was allegedly shot dead by her husband during a domestic dispute at their suburban home in Georgia, police said. The couple’s son was also wounded in the shooting.

Sheetal Wrzesien, 57, was pronounced dead at the scene after authorities responded to reports of gunfire at the family’s residence in Cobb County on Tuesday night. Her husband, Kirk Wrzesien, 56, was arrested without incident at the home.

Officers found the couple’s 23-year-old son, Jason Wrzesien, outside the house suffering from gunshot wounds. He was transported to a local hospital for treatment; his current condition has not been publicly disclosed.

Kirk Wrzesien has been charged with murder, two counts of aggravated assault, and two counts of illegally possessing a firearm while committing a crime. He is being held without bond at the Cobb County Adult Detention Center.

Investigators believe the shooting stemmed from a domestic dispute, though the exact circumstances leading to the confrontation remain under review. Police cordoned off the neighborhood for several hours as they processed the crime scene.

Sheetal Wrzesien was a respected technology executive with more than two decades of experience in the industry. She held a leadership role at Google and previously led mobile and digital transformation initiatives for The Home Depot’s e-commerce business.

A Computer Science graduate from Georgia Tech, she was known for mentoring women in STEM and served on the advisory board of the university’s College of Computing. Colleagues and members of the Indian diaspora have described her death as a profound loss to the technology community.
