IndiGo Flight with Over 160 Passengers Makes Emergency Landing at Delhi Airport

India: A full emergency was declared at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport on Saturday after an IndiGo flight originating from Visakhapatnam (Vizag) reported a suspected engine failure mid-air, prompting a safe emergency landing.

According to initial reports, the aircraft, believed to be an Airbus A320 family jet typically used on domestic routes, was carrying more than 160 passengers and crew when the pilots declared the emergency. Runway 28 was placed on high alert, with fire tenders and emergency services immediately deployed as a precautionary measure.

The plane landed safely without any reported injuries to passengers or crew. Airport authorities and IndiGo officials are yet to release the exact flight number, aircraft registration, or a detailed statement, but sources confirmed that standard aviation protocols were followed, and all onboard are safe.

Passengers are expected to be accommodated on alternative flights once the aircraft undergoes mandatory inspection.

The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) is likely to initiate a probe into the suspected engine-related issue, a recurring concern in the industry, particularly with certain Pratt & Whitney-powered A320neo aircraft.

This incident comes amid heightened focus on aviation safety in India. No further disruptions to airport operations have been reported.
