Indore Water Contamination Crisis: Deaths Reach 11 Amid Sewage Leak in India’s ‘Cleanest City’

India: In Indore, the city of Madhya Pradesh that has been declared the cleanest city in India for eight consecutive years, the number of people who died from drinking poisonous water from government taps has reached eleven, while the number of affected individuals in hospitals has reached several hundred.

Senior leader of the Indian opposition party Congress and Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, has severely criticized the Modi government over the BJP’s double policy regarding the deaths caused by sewage-contaminated water in Indore.

He accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of always remaining silent whenever the poor die in India, and that he is still silent now. Rahul Gandhi wrote in a lengthy post on social media that poison, not water, was distributed in Indore, and the administration remained asleep like Kumbhakarna. Mourning has spread to every home; the poor are helpless, while arrogant statements from BJP leaders are being heard.

He further said that people repeatedly complained about dirty and foul-smelling water, but no one listened to them. How did sewage water mix into the line? Why was the supply not stopped in time?
