Iranian President Pezeshkian: War Decisions Rest with Supreme Leader, Not Government

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian said the decision on whether to go to war does not lie with the government, stressing that his administration will fully back any choice made by the Leader of the Revolution.

“The decision to go to war is not with the government; it is not with the government in law, nor will it be with the government in the future,” Pezeshkian stated. “The government’s role is to provide the necessary supplies.”

He added that military commanders on the battlefield are better placed to assess capabilities, and that “the leadership makes the decision, and whatever decision they make, we will stand by them until the end.”

The remarks come amid ongoing regional tensions and underscore Iran’s constitutional structure, in which ultimate authority on matters of war and peace rests with the Supreme Leader rather than the elected executive.
