Jang/The News Group Puts Media Offices in Major Cities Up for Sale, Raising Concerns in Journalism Circles

Pakistan’s leading media conglomerate, Jang/The News Group, owned by Mir Shakil-ur-Rahman, has reportedly put several of its media offices and operational properties across major cities up for sale, raising concerns within journalism and media circles.

According to an advertisement published in Jang and The News, the properties include the group’s printing press and media office on Davis Road in Lahore, its main office on Murree Road near Railway Bridge in Rawalpindi, a media office in Blue Area near D-Chowk in Islamabad, and another office located on Main Malir Kala Board Road in Karachi.

The advertisement mentions that the facilities include office spaces, press areas, parking facilities, and other operational infrastructure, while contact details have also been provided for interested buyers.

Media analysts believe the move reflects the increasing financial pressure on Pakistan’s traditional print media industry, which has been struggling with declining advertisement revenues, rising operational costs, and a rapid shift toward digital media platforms. In recent years, several major media organizations have undertaken restructuring measures aimed at reducing expenses and streamlining operations.

The development has triggered concern among journalists and media workers over the possibility of layoffs or downsizing if operations are relocated or scaled back.
