Khalistan Slogans Raised at Akal Takht on 42nd Anniversary of Operation Blue Star

India: Khalistan-supporting slogans were raised at the premises of the Akal Takht Sahib in Amritsar on Saturday during events marking the 42nd anniversary of Operation Blue Star and the death anniversary of Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale, prompting heightened security arrangements across the city.

Supporters and members of various Sikh organizations gathered outside the Akal Takht, chanting slogans including “Khalistan Zindabad” and “Bhindranwale Zindabad.” Several participants were seen carrying posters of Bhindranwale, while some also displayed traditional swords during the gathering.

The event was attended by leaders of several Sikh groups, including Simranjit Singh Mann. Addressing the gathering, religious leaders called for unity among Sikhs.

Authorities had deployed heavy security across Amritsar to maintain law and order and prevent any untoward incidents. Police officials said the situation remained peaceful, with no major security breach reported during the commemorative events.

However, the raising of pro-Khalistan slogans has drawn attention from political and security circles, reflecting the continued sensitivity surrounding separatist sentiments in the Indian state of Punjab.
