Kuwait Air Defenses Intercept Iranian Missiles and Drones in Overnight Barrage

Kuwait’s air defense systems successfully intercepted a wave of Iranian missiles and drones launched toward the country overnight, officials confirmed on Thursday.

The attack is believed to be a direct retaliation following recent U.S. strikes on Iranian drone facilities and a launch control site near Bandar Abbas in the Strait of Hormuz. Kuwaiti forces reported neutralizing all incoming projectiles before they could reach their targets, with no casualties or significant ground damage reported.

Eyewitness videos shared widely on social media show dramatic scenes of bright flashes, multiple explosions high in the clear blue sky, and smoke trails as Kuwaiti interceptors engaged the threats. Sirens and emergency alerts sounded across parts of the country during the incident, which coincided with Eid celebrations for many residents.

This marks the latest in a series of Iranian strikes on Gulf Cooperation Council states since the broader 2026 conflict erupted. Kuwait has faced repeated attacks targeting U.S. military bases such as Ali Al Salem, oil refineries like Mina Al-Ahmadi, power stations, water desalination plants, and other critical infrastructure. While many projectiles have been intercepted, some earlier waves caused material damage, fires, and limited injuries.

The exchange underscores the fragility of the April ceasefire between Iran and the United States. Diplomatic talks, including those hosted in Qatar, appear under strain as Iranian forces continue targeting American allies and energy assets in the region. The Strait of Hormuz, through which roughly one-fifth of global oil passes, remains a flashpoint, contributing to volatility in energy markets.
