Kuwait Intercepts Multiple Iranian Drones in Fresh Attack on Northern Sites
Kuwait’s air defence systems successfully intercepted and destroyed multiple drones launched by Iranian forces early Saturday, officials said, as the Gulf state faced another wave of attacks amid escalating regional tensions.
The Kuwaiti Ministry of Defence reported that its armed forces detected “hostile” drones entering the country’s airspace since dawn. The drones, attributed to Iran and linked to the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), targeted vital installations, including a government facility in northern Kuwait and civilian vehicles belonging to a private company on Bubiyan Island near the Iraqi border.
Falling shrapnel and debris from the interceptions caused material damage to vehicles and infrastructure but resulted in no casualties, according to ministry spokesman Colonel Staff Saud Abdulaziz al-Atwan. He confirmed that air-defence systems engaged and neutralized the drones, with explosions heard in some areas stemming from those operations.
Kuwait condemned the “heinous Iranian aggression,” stating it undermines regional security and stability while reaffirming its right to take all necessary measures to protect its sovereignty, citizens, and residents. The armed forces remain on high alert and continue coordinating with relevant authorities.
The incident occurs against the backdrop of ongoing hostilities in the wider Middle East conflict that began earlier in 2026, during which Kuwait—home to significant U.S. military facilities—has repeatedly been targeted. No immediate comment was available from Iran or U.S. Central Command. Iranian officials separately accused the United States of escalating tensions in the region.
The attack marks the latest in a series of drone and missile incidents involving Kuwait, with previous strikes having caused limited damage and, in some earlier cases, casualties. Officials emphasized continued readiness to defend the nation’s airspace.
