Lahore Gymkhana Reportedly Moves Liquor Stock Amid Fear of Excise Department Raid

The Lahore Gymkhana Club has reportedly started moving liquor stocks from its warehouses to another location amid fears of a possible raid or inspection by the Excise Department, sources claimed.

According to sources, some employees of the Lahore Gymkhana Club, allegedly led by an employee identified as Labha, are shifting liquor and other prohibited items from the club’s warehouses to another location.

The reported movement comes after questions were raised in the Punjab Assembly regarding the alleged sale of liquor at the Lahore Gymkhana Club and the legal status of such sales.

Punjab Assembly Member Chaudhry Amjad Ali Javed had submitted a question seeking detailed information from the Excise Department regarding the sale of liquor at the club.

The department has been asked to clarify under which law imported liquor is being sold at the Lahore Gymkhana Club and whether the Excise Department has issued any licence to the club for the sale of imported liquor.

The assembly question also seeks details of the amount of tax paid by the Gymkhana Club to the Excise Department from the sale of liquor during the last three years.

The member has further sought information on allegations that liquor was being sold to members and non-members without proper consideration of the buyers’ age, and asked what action, if any, has been taken against the club over such alleged violations.

Details have also been sought regarding action taken by the police, the Anti-Narcotics authorities and the Excise Department in connection with the alleged sale of liquor at the club.

The issue has reportedly increased pressure on the relevant government departments following its discussion in the Punjab Assembly, with questions being raised about the regulatory and legal framework under which liquor is allegedly being sold at the prestigious Lahore club.

Sources now claim that, amid the possibility of action by the Excise Department, the club administration has allegedly begun removing liquor stocks from its warehouse.

If confirmed, the reported shifting of stock could raise further questions about the club’s liquor inventory, licensing status, tax payments and compliance with applicable laws.

However, the allegations regarding the removal of liquor stocks have not been independently verified, while the Lahore Gymkhana Club and the Excise Department have yet to publicly respond to the claims.
