Landslide at Andhra Pradesh’s Kanaka Durga temple in Vijayawada, several trapped under debris

India: Panic ensued after a landslide at the famous Kanaka Durga temple in Andhra Pradesh’s Vijayawada on Wednesday. Few devotees are suspected to be trapped under the debris and rescue and relief efforts are still underway.

According to inputs, several boulders rolled down on Indra Keeladri hills in Vijayawada on Wednesday, crushing a shed at the Kanaka Durga Temple. This further led to panic among devotees.

The incident comes hours before Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jaganmohan Reddy’s visit to the hill shrine in Andhra Pradesh’s Vijayawada.

Celebration of the 10-day Dasara festival at the hill shrine began on October 17. Also known as Sri Durga Malleswara Swamy Varla Devasthanams (SDMSD), the temple opened its doors to devotees amid Covid-19 protocols.
